Located at the crest of the City of Cortland’s southern hillside, the Cortland Junior/senior High School and district administrative offices overlook the city below. Cortland is located in upstate New York) which is approximately six hours, by car, north of New York City.
Approximately 2,800 students and 450 faculty, support staff, adminitrators and members of the Board of Education are proud to be part of Corltand County’s largest school district.
Centrally located in the heart of the state, Cortland is in an “Information Technology Corridor”.
The district’s teaching staff is well-qualified, energetic and ready to meet the educational needs of our students. They are assisted in this effort by our dedicated support staff, administrators and the Board of Education.
Our Commitment to Excellence
Cortland offers students comprehensive, diverse and exciting academic courses. Classes take place Monday to Friday from 7:45 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. From hands-on science and mathematics manipulatives, process writting, integrated language of arts, and Responsive Classroom in the elementary schools, to the “School to Work” program and honors electives in the high school, the district challenges students with an extensive array of courses.
Cortland has also an exceptional athletics program. Cortland is also recognized statewide each year for outstanding achievement in our music and art programs.
Our school district exists to give our children purpose and hope. We do this by living the values of our school family. We are committed to four core values. They represent our firm conviction and primary principles :

Excellence – doing and motivating the best in others and ourselves
Students in our district are actively engaged in projects and clusters of integrated learning, and make significant use of technology. Learning is not bound by walls or schedules. Students continue their education in the community and other places as well as the school. The majority of our students hold part-time jobs outside of school.
For the moment, this project — Global Classroom Initiative — is an extra-curricular activity undertaken by a small pool of 17 - 18 year old students and directed by a handful of motivated teachers.
